 1/2-DAY MUSIC THERAPY WORKSHOP
This 1/2-day workshop will provide an opportunity for music therapy professionals, students/interns, and professionals in education and health-related fields to gain an in-depth understanding of Musical Sensory Orientation Training (MSOT), a neurologic music therapy technique, including how it may be combined with mindfulness practice.

Live demonstrations, mock scenarios, and clinical practice sessions will be used to increase your knowledge and clinical competence in these areas.

This session is open to all students, interns, and professionals in the field of music therapy, music education, and related health professions. Upon completion of the workshop, a certificate will be provided to the participant that can be applied towards 5 hours of continued professional development credit (CMTE/CEU). The clinical practice workshop is also a great way to sharpen your clinical skills, exchange ideas with your peers, and collaborate with others in your field.

  • Shannon de l’Etoile

    Shannon de l’Etoile joined the Frost School of Music in 2001 as director of the music therapy program and in 2012 she stepped into the role of Associate Dean of Graduate Studies.  She has specialized in teaching music therapy research methods as well as an advanced seminar on music, sensorimotor functioning, and speech/language skills.  Prior to arriving in Miami, Shannon was a music therapy faculty member and research associate at Colorado State University in the Center for Biomedical Research in Music and taught music therapy at the University of Iowa.  She conducts externally funded, interdisciplinary research on infant response to music and is known internationally for her research expertise.  Shannon is a board-certified music therapist, member of the American Music Therapy Association, and a Fellow of the Robert F. Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. 

  • Yani Rubio

    Yani Rubio joined the Frost Music Therapy faculty in 2022 as the Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and the Clinical Training Coordinator. She has over 27 years of clinical experience working in vast settings with various populations with an emphasis on children, youth, and adults with ID/DD and adults in rehabilitation with neuromotor deficits. During her years as Director of Programming and grant writing at Creative Children Therapy and Villa Lyan School, her programs received several grants for inclusion through the arts. Yani is a founding member for the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs All Kids Included Initiative (AKI). She is currently an active professional development facilitator throughout the community enhancing program development, inclusion through the arts, best practices, and strategies to assist in the management of community arts programming. Yani is a board-certified music therapist, member of the American Music Therapy Association and a Fellow of the Robert F. Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy.

  • David Cote

    David Cote is a graduate teaching assistant for the music therapy program at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. He supervises undergraduate students and provides clinical music therapy services at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This semester David worked with neuro-rehabilitation patients at the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center. He has experience working with a variety of populations including addiction rehabilitation, children's hospital, children and adults with ID/DD, Parkinson's choir, Alzheimer's patients, and teaching adaptive music lessons. He graduated from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in 2021 and completed his internship and then worked at Creative Arts Therapies of the Palm Beaches. David completed his Neurologic Music Therapy Training in March of 2024. David is also a composer and songwriter and recently released his first EP!
